Dictionary.com I really like!!!! This site has some nice features which includes, among other neat features, a thesaurus that I love. But one other feature I find fascinating is the word of the day. My vocabulary stinks (enough said). So this feature that picks words (and many times within due season........pun intended) is a helpful tool.

The site always has a catchy phrase, like, "As leaves fall, learn the specific name of the rustling sound they make." So naturally, one's interest is peaked. And viola, you have..........the word of the day.:D
Anyways, the word of the day today is:

Rice Pancakes....Not with Bean flour, not with sorghum, not with corn starch, not with millet....

I had to figure this out b/c most recipes that are gluten-free have corn starch or sorghum, or millet or........or.........or.......in it that Pierce and I can't have. Plus it gets so expensive buying this flour and that flour.........

RICE Pancakes...........

2c. white rice flour
...
1/4 c. tapioca flr (in the Asian aisle)

1 tsp. salt ( 1 full tsp. yes, b/c I like salt)

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. guar gum (health food store)

1/4 c. brown sugar

1 tbsp. honey

1/2 c. egg replacer*

1/2 c. oil

1 tsp. vanilla

2 c. water

Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl then add the wet ingredients and stir.Pour batter on a buttered cast iron or non-stick skillet.
*The egg replacer I use is boiled flax seeds. 3 cups boiling water, then add 1/3 cup of whole flax seeds. Boil for 5 min. Strain immediately. Let cool if you have time.I double the egg replacer and store it in a mason jar for the rest of the week. But if you can have eggs then use 2 eggs for the rice pancakes.

Cozy, Cozy, Cozy..........that's how Mom and I are rating the winters now, right, Mom? Cold is stricken from my winter weather vocabulary. Our thermometer is measured by coziness. The "colder" it is the cozier it is. It's very simple anyone can do it. And it leaves you with a much more pleasant outlook on winter (for those of us who struggle;) ).
Also, for those of us who regretably and sorrowfully don't have a fireplace ( to enhance the cozy factor) I give you, the YOUTUBE FIREPLACE!!!! We don't have cable and consequently no firelog channel. But we will find ways!!!!!!!!! Yeah to those who put these videos on!!! I'm posting the 20 min. video.

Making the Most of our Time
I love the verse, “Teach us to number our days that we may present to Thee a heart of wisdom”. (Psalm 90:12)

I’m sharing with you something the Lord has been impressing on me recently. I am a person who lives by my lists. I write down things I need to get accomplished each day and delight in crossing items off my list as I complete the tasks.

Contemplating the end of summer drawing near, I was struck with how I don’t feel ready for it to end. There is so much I wanted to do, that I haven’t gotten done with the busyness of life. Things like cleaning and organizing projects, like special days with the grandkids, like fun stuff with Kelley and Kasey- things we don’t seem to get to do during the school year, family day trips to historical places, etc.

And yet, I’ve crossed a lot of things off my list. The Lord seemed to prick my conscience causing me think, “Yes, I’ve crossed a lot off my list, but what have I accomplished for eternity? What really counts? Am I just crossing off items on my list and feeling a false sense of accomplishment or am I making the most of every day and every opportunity to be used of God in the little things?”

For instance, we’ve had a lot of functions this summer- friends showers, weddings, anniversaries, etc. Yes, a lot are crossed off my list, but did I find someone to impact while I attended those things? When at church, did I just sit there or did I find someone to encourage? Am I just crossing off the lists in my life or am I making a difference in God’s scheme of eternity?

I am trying to teach this to my kids as well. Recently Kasey (my 11 yr. old) and I were talking and I encouraged her to have a ministry. There is an older couple in church who we’ve had into our home. He is Vietnam war vet. Kasey is very patriotic and interested in the brave men who’ve fought to secure our freedoms. I was explaining to her how a simple hug can go a long way. She has made it her goal now to seek this couple out in church and give them hugs, cookies, notes, etc.- simple acts of kindness. They absolutely LOVE her and she is able to brighten their lives just by reaching out in small ways. She recently told me when she is a lady and has kids she wants to name her son after this special man. She’s beginning to catch the vision of living a life of service and also reaping the blessings of being people who intentionally look for ways to serve others.

It’s all about our focus. We are here to advance God’s purposes in the lives of those he places us in contact with. Instead of just fulfilling our responsibilities and crossing them off the list, I need to remember to make the most of my time- to speak vision into the lives of the people God has cross my path. We are here to make a difference for eternity- to advance His kingdom and His purposes in our little corner of the world. As we focus on this we will raise kids of vision with driven purpose who sense our time is short and who long to one day hear, “Well done” when we enter into the presence of our Lord. So, as you plan for the school year which is fast approaching, remember you serve our mighty God as you pour yourself into those little lives entrusted to you. You have the most important job on earth!

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

It is so encouraging to have friends and family, as I do, who send notes, phone calls, gifts, and prayers of encouragement and love in Christ. Leah, is most definitely among them. She has ministered in prayers, notes, and gifts (of all sorts) to our family in times of trials and not.

She was kind enough, to cast her thoughts toward me liking Bleak House, of which I told her reminds me of my darling mother at the time of Claire's birth, after all the kids were mostly over their 2 week engagement with sickness. You see, Mom and I hardly get to do things together b/c of our geographical separation. So Mom, shocked, if I remember correctly, couldn't believe I had never seen Bleak House. In her amazement, and I'm guessing, delight, introduced me to it, as a beloved, old friend. And somehow, I knew I'd like it,too. How we stayed up late, till our heads were bobbing and eyes were stinging.........just one more scene.

So what does Leah do? You guessed it.....she goes and buys the movie for me!!!! So now, I am among the ranks of happy Bleak House owners.

I was wanting to get this post up earlier this week, but before I could, another shower of kindness was poured upon us by Miss Leah.

You see, this Espresso by Nes Cafe is a favorite amongst us. They took it off the shelves. Just like that........with one of those blasted recall notes. You know the kind, that discombobulates the mind. REASON: Shard of glass meets espresso,if I remember correctly, according to Leah's lengthy and thorough investigation,

Today, unbeknowns to Murray and me, being the first day it's back on the shelf, Leah secretly purchased a bottle and left it in our mailbox.

So a humble and hearty thank you goes out to Leah, tonight; as well a prayer of returned blessings for her.

Thrift Store Elations and Deflations

Mitch is being potty trained..........which means, buying more Lysol, more toilet paper, and buying more patience (if only!!!!!). Not wanting to spend more money on diapers, I found and bought training pants at the thrift store. (YES!!!!) As I happily started putting my new bargain on Mitchy, something was amiss........and it sure didn't get passed him, literally. As I was pulling them up, he responds, "I stuck.... I stuck!" The training pants wouldn't go passed his thighs? No, this couldn't be! HOW could he be too big for myyyyyy bargain?!!?!!?! Impossible. Preposterous! So off they came. Pulling, stretching, and yes, even sounds of, heh, r-ripping.......(coupled with sounds of sighing). Needless to say, my"bargain" will have to "do storage" 'til Claire is ready to be potty trained. Hopefully I'll remember what a great deal they were then to totally enjoy the savings, saved.

I was speaking to all the children, but read this specifically for Pierce at this time in his life going through daily/nightly itching for over three years now. And now about 1 1/2 years of daily/nightly stomach pains and headaches and bodily aches. I was able to tell him as he struggles with not just the pain but with all the hardship that goes along with it, that we honor Christ the most and bring Him glory by being good sufferers. We don't honor Christ when we grumble and complain about His perfect loving providence tailor made for each of His children.

I was telling Mom the other day, all choked up, that even though Pierce is going through such a hard time, he came up to me and said, "Mom, even thought I'm itching and have this stomach problem, I wish your rash and everybody else's pain would go away first." This brings such tears of joy to my heart.......knowing the daily struggle he has with this, physically but also emotionally, but seeing God strengthening and teaching my son to think of others and to rely upon Him and Him alone. May God be praised!!!!!

I read this scripture plus the expoundation of it by Spurgeon to the kids the other night. It was fantastic!! Here are a few quotes from this Morning and Evening's August 31, morning portion.

I asked the children what they thought this meant......and how a "hurricane" could be blessed in doing so. Aren't hurricanes scary and why would they be blessed since it is a natural disaster. We had a wonderful time discussing what this meant. So much so, that we could only finish 1/2 a small page that night..........and then continued the previous night. What a great blessing this was and is and will continue to be to my family's souls.

Silly Muffet Strikes Again

Warren and Kennedy were making a booklet today for their Human Body "project". You know, where you whole punch the folded side of a bunch of "symetrically" folded papers and then you weave yarn through to make a booklet. Well, they both did a great job and they were so excited with the outcome (especially with using two colors of yarn. How can one live with just using one dull, plain, lonely piece of yarn?!?!?). Kennedy couldn't find hers for a minute and looking under some papers she says, "Oh here, BOOM, it is!" It reminded me of something Kuzco would say. haha It was quite funny hearing that from a little 3 1/2year old's mouth, especially with her little voice.

Today was the boys' day to make their gingerbread house. Very different from how the girls approached it. I didn't have as many pictures b/c they got done a lot faster than the girls did. They certainly had a lot of fun, but in a different way. The girls ate as they went along ( a habit which will stop before it starts) but the boys certainly took it to a new level ( I guess as boys ususally do). Harrison started frosting a mustache on himself and then added candies to his frosting mustache. LOLOLOLOL It reminded me of something Josh would do. I thought I got video of us laughing hysterically......It makes me sad I didn't get it....but I'll remember that forever. I did get some pics of Harrison. The other boys, of course, joined in; who could resist!!!!!!!!
And then Harrison picks up an extra piece of wall of the gingerbread house and starts eating it as if it were a normal sized cookie. Very smug of him.
And then they were showing off their talent by using their very careful and graceful tongues by trying to lick the candies and frosting from atop their lips.
Pierce, even though he was laughing, took his "masterpiece" much more seriously. hahhahaha

Meet Baby/Gift #8 For the First Time

The kids and I went for my ultrasound today to see new bee-bee!!!! The ultrasound technician was great. She was showing the kids all the different parts of the baby, even the umbilical cord and the baby opening and closing her(his) mouth. They even saw the tongue!!!!! So, the baby is most likely a girlie.......but we'll still have to wait and see for sure, for sure. The baby measured at 29 weeks and 5 days..... further along than I thought....So, we'll see;)

One of the Most Beautiful Pieces of Music Written ( in my opinion)

So Jackson, I don't know if you remember that time we were discussing music in your kitchen.......but this is the piece I was telling you about. It's Telemann: Trumpet Concerto in D Major played by Ludwig Guttler. I LOVE how he plays it. I've heard another play this song, and the high, high point of the music, which on this video is about 1 min. and 35 sec., was played too fast. I like how he takes a little more time through it. Anyways, all, sit back, relax, and wander to music euphoria.

The Mysterious Island, I can't wait to see. The kids and I read many articles in the Answers in Genesis Magazine about the errors of Darwin and the Galapagos Islands, which we found most fascinating. And now, to hear of this new documentary coming out right around the anniversary of the Origin of Species, yes, how fresh and wonderful. I always feel so suffocated by all this evolution crap we normally hear, that the creationism we read about through Vision Forum and Answers in Genesis is so refreshing!!!!!
